The Gamakatsu SL45 Bonefish Hook is a little of a surprise, in the fact that it has a black finish rather than the expected shiny silverfish, nickel, or tin-plated finish we usually expect in saltwater fly hooks. The Gamakatsu SL45 Bonefish hook is specifically intended for flats flies that have a little less shine or sparkle, thus the black finish. When bones are spooking to the sparkle, you can slip a Crazy Charlie in front of their cute noses and they are more likely to eat than run.
The Gamakatsu SL45 bonefish is not only a bonefish fly, however. We have fished tiny comets and Boss flies tied on this hook with #10 tippets and found this makes an esthetically pleasing, sticky sharp, and effective hook when fishing for Chinook salmon and steelhead in coastal rivers under low water conditions. We stock the SL45 in sizes 4 and 6 and note that that this is one of the Gamakatsu hooks that is sized a little on the smallish end of the perceptual scale.
