"I had this big bass that I wanted to catch, a big largemouth 6 and a half pounder. He would come up and look at my poppers and stuff and I couldn't get him to eat it.
Back then we had a muskie lure called a suick. When you pull it, the bait would dive and when it rises up it wouldn't back up.
All these other lures when you pull them and stop they would rise back up.
Having it move forward was a lethal trigger. I wanted a fly that I could get to dive and re-create that same forward trigger.
That first cast with the diver and I run it over him and he ate it. He was like 7lbs."
